Garmin Enduro 4 vs Enduro 3: Is Upgrading Worth It?
Garmin Enduro 4 vs Enduro 3 is a storage and navigation upgrade question, not an automatic battery upgrade. Keep a working Enduro 3 unless its map handling or storage is a real limitation; new buyers pay $100 more for Enduro 4 at the Garmin US prices checked October 7, 2026.
Evidence: We havenât physically tested Enduro 4. Specifications and manufacturer performance claims below are separate from independently demonstrated real-world effects. See how we compare products for our methodology.
Garmin Enduro 4 vs Enduro 3: key differences
The Garmin US comparison supplies the hardware and mode ratings. Enduro 3 launched in August 2024; Enduro 4 was announced October 6, 2026.
| Buying detail | Enduro 4 | Enduro 3 |
|---|---|---|
| US displayed price, October 7 | $899.99 | $799.99 |
| Dimensions | 51 x 51 x 15.7 mm | 51 x 51 x 15.7 mm |
| Screen | 1.4-inch solar MIP, 280 x 280 | 1.4-inch solar MIP, 280 x 280 |
| Lens / bezel | Power Sapphire / titanium | Power Sapphire / titanium |
| Case | Fiber-reinforced polymer | Fiber-reinforced polymer |
| Supplied-band weight | 66g, ComfortFit | 63g, UltraFit |
| Case-only weight | 57g | 57g |
| Map/music storage | 64GB | 32GB |
| RAM | Garmin claims 50% more than Enduro 3 | Comparison baseline; no absolute capacity claimed here |
| Water rating | 10 ATM | 10 ATM |
| Flashlight | White/red LED | White/red LED |
Storage and RAM are different. A 64GB storage specification does not mean 64GB of working memory. More map storage is a verified capacity difference; faster navigation is a performance claim that still needs controlled testing.
Price: the $100 decision for new buyers
Garminâs live US comparison displayed $899.99 for Enduro 4 and $799.99 for Enduro 3. These are dated store observations, not permanent street prices. The Enduro 3 store also showed shipping in 1 to 3 business days. Enduro 4âs US announcement states availability, but check the selected modelâs delivered date before ordering.
For a new buyer, a $100 gap makes Enduro 4 easier to justify if you need several map regions or routinely navigate unfamiliar trails. At a substantially bigger retailer discount, Enduro 3 becomes more attractive. Compare tax, strap configuration, seller warranty and return terms, not just the headline price.
For an existing owner, this isnât a $100 upgrade. Youâre buying a whole replacement watch and recovering whatever your used Enduro 3 sells for. That distinction matters more than the generation number. A new buyer choosing between shelves has a different decision from someone replacing equipment that already works.
Battery: equivalent maximums, renamed modes
| Manufacturer mode | Enduro 4, no solar / solar | Enduro 3, no solar / solar |
|---|---|---|
| Smartwatch | 36 / 90 days | 36 / 90 days |
| Extended Battery / GPS Only | 120 / 320 hours | 120 / 320 hours |
| Normal / All Satellite Systems | 80 / 144 hours | 80 / 144 hours |
| Max Accuracy / All Systems + Multi-band | 60 / 90 hours | 60 / 90 hours |
The labels changed, but the published maxima donât establish extra endurance. These are category-aligned manufacturer ratings, not identical firmware tests conducted by us. Garminâs solar activity assumptions use 50,000 lux; the smartwatch solar rating uses three hours outside each day at that light level. SatIQ and selected settings also matter.
If you normally race at night, cover the lens with a jacket or navigate in heavy woodland, donât budget around the solar maximum. Use the appropriate non-solar rating as a starting point and add a safety margin for maps, cold, music and accessories. Our watch battery guide explains why headline figures arenât race guarantees.
Nothing here supports a claim that Enduro 4 lasts longer on your route. That real-world effect is not yet independently established by this comparison. A healthy Enduro 3 battery and a degraded two-year-old battery also arenât equivalent test samples.
Maps, memory and navigation
Garminâs Enduro 4 announcement identifies 50% more RAM, an updated map engine, perspective view and 30% faster map panning. The last number is Garminâs claim, not a RunnersPicks measurement.
Twice the storage can matter if your installed regions or music already crowd 32GB. It isnât a compelling reason to replace a watch that holds your local maps comfortably. Faster panning could reduce friction when inspecting junctions, but it does not prove faster route calculations, more accurate GPS or better navigation with gloves.
Both models provide onboard maps and Garmin navigation. Donât describe Enduro 3 as a breadcrumb-only watch to manufacture a generational gap. Training features and possible software backports
The new launch stack includes grade-adjusted rolling pace and pace-based workouts, stamina zones/curves, expanded rowing and rucking tools, and Garmin Epic activity grouping. Both watches already offer training readiness, training status and an established Garmin training ecosystem.
Garminâs generation comparison distinguishes Garmin Epic in Connect on Enduro 3 from the newer on-device implementation. Donât mistake access to a shared app feature for identical on-watch behavior.
Some newer software has been discussed for older eligible Garmin devices. That is not proof that every feature is already installed on Enduro 3. Check the exact Enduro 3 release notes and installed firmware before paying for a software-only benefit; an expected backport is not a promised date or a delivered update. RAM and storage canât be added through a firmware download.
For broader race needs, our ultrarunning watch shortlist is more useful than choosing solely from a new feature list.
Design, sensors and everyday use
The identical case dimensions and case-only weight mean this isnât a smaller-watch upgrade. The 3g supplied-band difference accompanies the change from UltraFit to ComfortFit. It doesnât establish better fit, less chafing or more secure optical heart-rate readings. Try the fit if 51mm already feels too large.
Garmin lists multiband GPS, SatIQ, optical heart rate, barometric altitude, compass and ECG support for both. Weâre not claiming a verified new sensor generation or better accuracy. ECG availability has region, software and eligibility conditions; a feature flag is not medical advice.
Both offer music storage, Garmin Pay with supported banks, Connect IQ and phone notifications. Neither gets a voice-calling advantage in the US product comparison. A regional Garmin blog marks speaker/microphone for both, but the live US hardware/voice rows leave both absent. We use the exact US comparison rather than treating that conflicting blog checkbox as a new feature.
Buy Enduro 4, or keep/buy Enduro 3?
Buy Enduro 4 if youâre buying fresh, the current gap is modest, 32GB is restrictive, or the newer mapping workflow solves a specific problem. It is the more logical starting point for someone who genuinely needs the new hardware capacity.
Keep Enduro 3 if navigation, storage and battery already cover your events. Wait for verified firmware information rather than replacing it for software that may reach older devices. Buy Enduro 3 if the discount is meaningful and its existing functions match your needs.

Upgrade verdict: donât replace a healthy Enduro 3 for the 320-hour headline. Buy the map/storage change only if you need it. We intentionally make no Enduro 4 field claims about battery, GPS accuracy, comfort, reliability or map responsiveness.
FAQ
Does Enduro 4 have better battery life than Enduro 3?
The current published maximums are equivalent in the corresponding modes. That isnât proof of identical real-world runtime, and it does not demonstrate a generational battery improvement.
What is the biggest verified hardware difference?
Storage increases from 32GB to 64GB. Garmin also states 50% more RAM; the claimed 30% faster map panning remains a manufacturer measurement, not our test result.
Is Enduro 4 smaller or lighter?
Both cases are 51 x 51 x 15.7 mm and 57g without a band. Listed complete weights are 66g for Enduro 4 and 63g for Enduro 3 with their different supplied straps.
Will Enduro 3 receive every Enduro 4 software feature?
Donât assume that. Check exact model release notes and firmware availability. Shared Garmin Connect functions and expected backports are not the same as confirmed on-device parity.
Which should a new buyer choose at these prices?
At the checked $899.99/$799.99 prices, choose Enduro 4 if the mapping and capacity changes matter. Choose Enduro 3 if its existing capabilities suffice or a larger verified discount makes it better value.
